The Design Thinking Process

Understanding Organizations Goals

Northern Hawks is a relatively new team to enter in New South Wales Rugby League. They were in need of a new website that highlighted their achievement of being a First Grade Rugby Team, their Indigenous heritage and generate new sources of revenue. They wanted to reach more audience through their Social Media too.

Empathize Phase

The current website presented several pain points in the user journey. The “Hawks Shop“ was not working, there was not much information about the club, its heritage and achievements.

Northern Hawks belongs to Port Stephens and North Newcastle areas of New South Wales. Those areas have a predominantly younger population.

Define Phase

The new website needed to appeal and promote Northern Hawks to its intended audience. It needed to generate more sources of revenue. The teams past achievements and journey should be brought into focus. The website should look up to date with minimum effort and all current activities of team should be highlighted there.

Ideate Phase

For generating more sources of revenue, the Shop feature should be robust. Club membership, Tax-deductible donation through ASF and sponsorship by local businesses would bring in more revenue.

All the past news/press articles on the team will accentuate the teams journey. This can be best managed by blogging feature on website.

Integrating Instagram Feed into the website will promote the team’s current efforts and create more followers on Social Media. Upcoming events will also be featured using “Events“ feature of Squarespace.

Sponsors of the club will be promoted through the Business Directory on website.

Prototype and Testing Phase

After several iterations of prototyping and testing, the website was launched
